Paintings 2017
These are some of my new paintings. My work is still deeply influenced by my trips to China and especially my August 2016 Fellowship at the Great Wall, Mutianyu. (Please check out my albums showing the 6th Beijing International Art Biennale 2015, and my 'Schoolhouse at Mutianyu Great Wall' photos.) In particular, my work on canvas is informed and inspired by my ongoing series of ink paintings which can be seen in my ink paintings albums, especially the album called 'Inspired by China 2016/2017.'
During my time in China I re-affirmed my love and interest in calligraphic brush strokes and my focus now is to extend the ideas I gained in China while also exploring colour further. I like to work on several canvases at any one time so a dialogue develops between the paintings, as this allows new elements to emerge. I often work between works on rice paper and works on canvas. I may have works on rice paper on the floor in progress while working between canvases. This rhythm suits my way of working as ideas from one medium cross-pollinate with others..
