Paintings 2021
My paintings are paint poems. I start by exploring marks and colours, using combinations of layered oil paint, stains of acrylic and sometimes ink. I want to combine my personal reality and imagination with aspects of visual reality to create a reflection of thoughts in paint with an emphasis on paint and colour.. As I respond to materials and the processes the paint leads me through, I find new places. Generating this process is very important to my ideas because through layering materials I find a doorway into my compositions.
Much of my work contains references to landscapes as a meditation on the cycles of life and emotional connections to the land. My paintings are often inspired by memories, thoughts on global warming and climate change,or purely guided by the process of laying down marks and juxtaposing materials. I never know what might appear.
