Acrylic and ink on canvas
30 x 22 cm
This painting came about through the process of applying paint and ink in a fluid way but as it developed it reminded me of nights in China.
When I was staying next to the Great Wall of China I used to sit out late at night. The area is very rural and the sky sparkles with amazing clusters of stars. I would watch the moon rise very, very slowly above the dark hill to the east. This hill comprised the jungle-like forms of dense trees sihouetted against the night sky. As the moon rose, some forms became illuminated and stars became brighter and almost seemed as if they were falling from the sky. This memory completed the forms in my painting.
