I was thinking about all the amazing explorers who set off in to the unknown without the back up of mobile phones for contact or helicopter rescue in the case of accidents. I've long been an admirer of Shackleton, and had just watched a film about Major Percival Fawcett who searched remote jungles in Brazil for lost cities. In 1923 he set on another trip and was never found..
As painters we also explore but in our minds and through the treasures paint can suggest. This painting began without any planning and ended up as my searching through colour transitions and shapes. I see it also as a homage to those brave explorers.
