I've traveled a lot to places such as China (as a participant in the Beijing International Art Biennale, and for a Fellowship by the Great Wall,) the US, Europe, and lived in Africa and Cyprus. My paintings are like expeditions through memories and paint marks which then become new places. In this one I was also thinking of the times people navigated the world with much less security than we do now, in particular Ernest Shackleton and other explorers. These are some of the thoughts that went through my mind as I painted.
