Last week I went for the final time to visit a place called Burrswood (in Kent, UK) which is now closing. I have spent many years wandering around the large, park like grounds, painting in all weathers. Many of those memories find their way in to my paintings and this one is about my sorrow during that last walk out through the forest.
I painted a chessboard - this was not planned in advance, it just seemed to echo life being like a chessboard - and vague forms of nature, and there's a figure in there too!
This week I've been working across several small paintings to experiment with layering oil and acrylic with different ways of applying the paint. This one was not planned at all, the imagery found itself.
