Icarus
Icarus

As a 6 year old I was enthralled by the story of Icarus. One day the teacher showed us Bruegel's painting 'The Fall of Icarus.' As we looked at the reproduction of the painting, she told us the story. All you can see at first is the landscape - you have to search to find Icarus. It's like life, where things are overlooked or simply not noticed. I wanted my painting to focus on the fluttering of wings, the sense of falling, and the splash. As in Bruegel's painting, there are a few viewers.
Acrylic on canvas,
112 x 87 cm.
