The first time I became aware of the magic of night colours and how the identity of objects changes at night was when I was 5. My father took me in the car at night to collect my aunt and uncle from the railway station and everything was shrouded in mystery and slightly sinister. The lights of home were twinkling in the distance. That was the starting point for this painting.
