Oil and acrylic on canvas

I always love the way that colour and shapes can evoke memories, and with this painting I just let the colours lead me into a world of shadowy memories. I had just come back from Latvia, and foremost in my memory was the wintry landscape, with its flooded fields, patches of ice and snow, and blocks of 'cold' purple trees. The rivers were lined with ice and had overflowed in places. Though I did not set out to paint these things, they found their way into my choice of colour.
