'Flying into Riga Airport.'

My work is often inspired by an experience and in this case it was the landing at Riga airport. As the aircraft tilted sharply to one side, I had a view down onto colourful houses, rivers, forested areas (which appeared almost black, marshy land, and the winding shape of the river Daugava which snakes through the land.

There was a green that I came to term Latvian Green and I used some of it in my paintings. It was on many of the wooden houses and also on the money notes.
